This new version contains many exciting new features, enhancements and bugfixes. The FlightGear development team is delighted to announce the v2020.1 release of FlightGear, the free, open-source flight simulator. Several ground bombing scenarios suitable for the A-10, involving moving and static tank formations, explodable M1 Abrams tanks, etc. Please help us translate in other languages!.You can also choose to fly without the AIM-9s and the ECM pod, press Tab or Ctrl-I on the keyboard to display the config menu. (In Flightgear, the key ',' is usaly used for left brake, in the A-10 a nasal script intercepts the binding for weapons release, this is not a definitive solution). This sound is audible only when an AIM-9 is available, selected and searching. Now select Pylon #11, you should ear the seeker sound. Now a big circle appears on the HUD symbology, that the searching aera of the AIM-9. Press key 'e' on the keyboard to fire the gun.įor AIM-9, turn ( C) the AIM-9 Mode Knob to SEL (click on the right side of the knob). You should have on the left side of the main panel a red light indicating 'Gun Ready'. There is actually 2 AIM-9, the GAU9 gatling gun, and MK85 250 pound bombs.įirst of all push up the Master Switch to ARM ( B).įor the gun, push up the Gun Rate Switch to HI (right of the rounds counter). The gun's rounds counter ( A) should be lighted in blue and the HUD should be active. To avoid these problems, if you choose to equip the plane with full armament you may wish to fill the tanks only half full or so-the plane becomes much easier to fly and half fuel is still enough for a reasonably long flight.īe sure to have energy before trying to use the armament panel. Symptoms you would notice are difficult to take off, difficulty gaining altitude, difficult to manoeuvre without triggering stall warnings or actual stalls. At this weight the plane is quite difficult to fly. With fully loaded fuel tanks and a full load of armament, the A-10 is heavy-about 50,000 pounds. The cycling is repeated until fuel is depleted from the external wing tanks first, and external fuselage tank secondly.įor negative G flight, collector tanks will supply the engine with sufficient fuel for 10 seconds operation at MAX power. ![]() Main tanks can be topped when the fuel level is below 3034 lbs. Wing tanks can be topped when the fuel level is below 1590 lbs. In this case, opening the valve "tank gate" create a link between the two main tanks.įuel from the external tanks is transfered to the wing or main tanks by pressure from the bleed air system. Unequal fuel level between left (aft) main and right (forward) main tank (imbalance superior 750 lbs) will cause a longitudinal CG shift that may exceed allowable limits. In case of a main tank boost pump failure, the affected engine will suction-feed from the affected tank for all power setting up to an altitude of nearly 10,000 feet. Check valves prevent reverse fuel flow from the main tanks to the wing tanks. In case of a wing tank boost pump failure, the wing tank fuel will gravity feed its respective main tank if the main tank fuel level is below 600 lbs. The main boost pumps then supply the respective engines with the remainder fuel in main tanks. The wing boost pumps ( G switch) supply the respective engines until the wing tanks are empty, then the wing boost pumps automatically shut off. The two feed lines can be interconnected by opening the cross feed valve ( E switch). The right wing and right main tanks feed the right engine. Normally the left wing and left main tanks feed the left engine and the APU. (This could change with future development of engines failures.)įlightGear A-10 starts with all internal tanks full.Ģ wing tanks (left and right), 2 fuselage tanks: left main (aft) linked to left system and right main (forward) linked to right system, up to 3 external tanks (2 wings and 1 fuselage). Now the complete electrical circuit is powered and you can stop the APU to save some fuel. Wait for the starting cycle light to turn off, turn on the corresponding generator and repeat with the second engine. Just click on one of the throttle rails (Ctrl-c to see them), the throttle will move from stop to idle and the engine start. Now that we have minimum electrical power and bleed air supplied by the APU, starting the engines is straight forward.

Many Portable Generators have a 30-Amp or 50-Amp 120/240-Volt Outlet, or both. Transfer Switch Importance in Portable and Standby Generator Systems Generally, unless the homeowner is a certified electrician, local building departments may not permit the homeowner to install a whole house transfer switch without the help of a certified or licensed electrician. Yet another possibility is a manual transfer switch at the service entrance that allows a portable generator to feed the main service panel. When the power goes out, the generator supplies power through the manual transfer switch to the circuits selected at installation. Other transfer switches have the sub-panel built into them. ![]() ![]() Another single-load option is a critical appliance like a furnace or air conditioner. These control a sub-panel that distributes power to selected circuits by switching the sub-panel from utility power fed from the main service panel to portable generator power from the inlet box. Some manual transfer switches only supply a single load. Portable Generator Manual Transfer Switch Basics If that is the case, you may need more than one manual transfer switch for the home to make full use of the generator’s power capability. Very large portable generators like the Generac GP17500E watt may have multiple 30-Amp and 50-Amp receptacles. Typically, a portable generator that supplies a house will have a single 120/240-volt receptacle rated at 50-amperes or 30-amperes. The primary consideration is the amount of power the portable generator can supply and the available power outlets on the generator. The manual transfer switch that you select will depend on several factors. ![]() In modern astronomical terms, Caesar was basically saying that he was an unstable person. However, modern discoveries reveal that the North Star isn’t as constant as it seems, so it can sometimes represent the opposite. In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, the title character states, “But I am constant as the Northern Star, of whose true fixed and resting quality there is no fellow in the firmament”. Even though it does move a little in the night sky, it has been used as a metaphor for constancy in several poems and song lyrics. The North Star seems to be the center of the star field, associating it with constancy. As we look within ourselves, we can discover and develop the gifts that we already have, letting us achieve our full potential. Just like the literal North Star, it gives you direction in life. By the 17th century, the North Star was used figuratively for anything that was the focus of attention.ĭue to this, the North Star also became associated with life’s purpose, heart’s true desires, and unchangeable ideals to follow in your life. In the mid-16th century, the term was used for the North Star and the Little Dipper. Life’s Purpose and PassionĪncient navigators observed that all the stars in the sky seem to circle around the North Star, which was known to ancient Greeks as Kynosoura, meaning dog’s tail. Even today, knowing how to find the North Star remains one of the most basic survival skills. In fact, it’s more accurate than a compass, providing direction and helping people to stay on their course. ![]() For thousands of years, it has been a handy survival tool for navigators and travelers, even in the darkest of nights. If you’re in the northern hemisphere, you can figure out your direction by finding the North Star. Since it’s the perfect combination of magical and mysterious, it soon gained various interpretations and meanings. People have watched the North Star for centuries and even depended on it to guide them. The Meaning and Symbolism of the North Star Unfortunately, there isn’t a star in the south-facing end of the axis, so there’s no South Star. The point where your finger touches stays at the same place, just like the North Star, but the points that are far from the axis of rotation seems to revolve around it. Think of it like spinning a basketball on your finger. As the Earth spins on its axis, all stars seem to circle around this point, while the North Star appears fixed. In astronomy, this point in space is called the north celestial pole, which also aligns with the Earth’s axis. The North Star is called that because its location is almost exactly above the North Pole. Why Does the North Star Always Point North? However, it drops below the horizon once you travel south of the equator. If you were to stand at the North Pole, you would see Polaris directly overhead. You can find the North Star at any time of the year, and at any hour of the night in the northern hemisphere. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the brightest star in the night sky, and only ranks 48 on the list of brightest stars. ![]() At present, Polaris is regarded as our North Star, and sometimes goes by the name Stella Polaris, Lodestar, or Pole Star.
